The colour, light and forms of landscapes and buildings are my inspiration. I usually have a sketchbook to hand, with pens and a small box of watercolours, particularly when I'm travelling. I draw in the studio with ink, graphite and charcoal, or paint in acrylic or watercolour.
I grew up in Liverpool and trained as an Architect at Bath University in the 70s. After qualifying I worked in London for two fun packed but hard working years. I then found myself moving overseas with my husband and his work, which led me to practice as an Architect in Cairo and Oman.
After having three children abroad I was out of touch with the architectural world, but loved drawing and painting, exhibiting my work in Muscat, Brunei, Damascus and The Hague. I can honestly say that my work is hanging on walls worldwide! My two daughters are both now Architects, and my son is studying architecture, so all was not lost going overseas and leaving architecture!!
On returning to live in the UK I studied for two years on the Drawing and Applied Art degree course at UWE in Bristol, after which I set up studio at home in Devon, where I now focus on painting.
I have recently joined together with fellow artists Laure Bury, Katy Stoneman and Angela Smith to form 'The Dartmoor Colourists'. We hope to paint together outside on the moor, 'en plein air'. We are all passionate about the fabulous things Dartmoor offers, right on our doorsteps. The moods, colours, shapes and skies that are ever changing.
I hope you enjoy my website!
